Owen + Robbins Engagement

2

Yesterday afternoon I didn’t need to travel far to capture this couple’s engagement photos. The groom lives around the corner and down the road from me and the bride is just up over the hill. If you’ve been a long-time follower of my blog you may recognize Ainsley from senior photographs I took of her back in 2015. We originally scheduled for last Saturday but it rained all. day. long. We decided to reschedule and then around 5pm the sun decided to come out and shine! Then when it was cold and rainy every day this week I was nervous yesterday wasn’t going to pan out but we were blessed with a most beautiful day, a mild temp, little breeze, and gorgeous sunlight. I am so happy we took the chance to reschedule; it was especially nerve-wracking because we are so close to losing all color on the hills. But it turned out perfect!

We started the session at Bryan’s family farm. From corn fields to giant grain bins to tractors to water puddles to a creek that runs through the back yard, we made use of all of these great locations.

One thing I loved is that they are currently building a new structure on the farm and it will be used for their reception next summer. Ainsley had the idea to snap a photo of them in front of it and it will be a good reminder of the changes and how far they’ve come.

Maci

This adorable pup is “Maci.” She was great through the entire session and gets a few photos of her own.

Then we took a (very) quick drive down the road to his grandfather’s property where many old barns stand. I probably could have done the entire session here, so many beautiful textures and backgrounds to work with. I especially loved this stone wall.

Did I mention the light was perfect?

And these two?!

We finished up the session at Ainsley’s family farm which is a slice of Heaven on earth. Anywhere you look there’s beautiful landscape, adorable animals, and meticulously groomed outdoor spaces. And I do think we hit the tree colors just perfect, you’ll see why.

I look behind me and see this… Maci waiting patiently. Or maybe she’s bored as heck. Either way, so cute watching her humans intently.

So we go up the path/road a little ways to turn around. We pull into an opening to this field and I was just stunned by this view. This spot wasn’t necessarily planned but how could we pass it up? I kept going on about it. During the summer they hold bonfires up here, how amazing does that sound? Watching the sun set and the stars come out while listening to the fire crack and absorbing that warmth. Mmmm.

We wrapped the evening up with a few more shots just as the sun dipped below the hill.

Lastly they changed into matching T-shirts from the place where he proposed, we grabbed a couple photos and then I thought the shirt would make a great background for the ring shots. I was setting this shot up when a super sweet kitty jumped up on top of it. Thank goodness he was gentle, I would have felt horrible if the ring went flying! Then when I went to return my camera to my car (I had left my door open briefly) he was inside, must be needing to hitch a ride HAHA.

The darkness started to close in on us as well as the chill so it was time to wrap things up. It was a most enjoyable time capturing some moments for this couple, and I wish you best wishes for your marriage, Ainsley & Bryan!

Tracy & Matt’s Engagement Session [October 2015]

blog1

So I’d like to introduce you all to my best friend from high school. Tracy and I first became friends back in middle school. So many years worth of memories, it’s hard to lump them all into a small blog post so I even try to do that. I was ecstatic for her when she told me about Matt. I was happy that she was happy. Can you believe that through the many years I had never done any photos for her?! Well I knew that had to change and an engagement was the perfect chance!

Between both of our schedules we choose a day in early October that turned out to be cold and blustery. These two didn’t complain one bit, it was my daughter that had that under control 😉 I didn’t have a sitter for this day and had to bring her… note to self: don’t do that again. We headed to a local park for these photos. Local people, can you believe this is Veterans Park (formerly known as James Street Park)? It has some beautiful locations, that you wouldn’t guess are there. These trees for instance do a beautiful job of framing in my equally beautiful subjects.

In this shot on the right side, there was some of that ugly orange plastic fencing way behind them. I didn’t know how easy it would be to remove it but I had to try, it was so ghastly. I am happy that I tried because I don’t think you can even notice. And the photo on the left? You can just see the joy and happiness in Tracy’s eyes, even though she’s out of focus. These two love birds!!!

A special request of the bride-to-be, we had to get some silhouette shots!

Andddddd there’s going to be another added to their family next year! How exciting?! At the time of photos, they were not yet sharing with anyone so I had to keep these under wraps, but they have since announced it so here are a couple maternity-style shots.

And Tracy had this idea and I loved it! We couldn’t find a sign that said “bump ahead” so I had to fix the wording on this sign. Love the end result of this photo!

And, one last thing… due to their wedding photographer getting unexpectedly injured, they were out of a wedding photographer. I asked my sister to tag along to the wedding and help me get some photos to help them remember their special day (since I was the Matron of Honor). So happy she said yes. Gosh, that was a month ago and I still haven’t gotten their photos to them… SORRY TRACY AND MATT! I promise they’re coming up quickly on my to-do list. But I wanted to share just a couple as a preview 🙂

What a fun day that was! I am grateful and thankful to have been a part of it. Be watching for wedding day photos!
